DALEDIVA SCORES WITH BBC RADIO 3 CHOIR OF THE YEAR 2010
Derbyshire women’s chorus DaleDiva has made it through the area selection stage of this year’s BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year competition.
From February to June more than 200 choirs and choruses from England, Scotland and Wales will be competing in 10 audition days to become a Choir of the Day in one of four categories - children, youth, adult or open.
If chosen they get the chance of going through to category finals in Birmingham – then to a national grand final at London’s Festival Hall in November to be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Four TV.
In March DaleDiva travelled to the Milton Keynes audition where they beat off competition to be judged a Choir of the Day in the adult section.
The Cromford-based women’s four-part harmony chorus is now waiting until the area selection stages finish in June to hear if they have been successful in getting through.
DaleDiva musical director Ally Law said: “It was a fantastic achievement for us to get through the area selection stage of this prestigious competition so to make it through to the next stages would be the most fabulous bonus.
“It’s great for us to perform on a national stage which helps us in our ambition to strive for the highest standards and be the best chorus we can be.
“We’re also very proud to be representing our county and putting Derbyshire on the musical map.”
The Milton Keynes audition was hosted by BBC Radio 3 presenter Petroc Trelawny and judged by choral directors Susan Hollingworth and Robert Hollingworth.
