4 part, un-accompanied harmony,
mainly in the barbershop style. Forget about 4 old
geezers, handle bar moustaches
and a towel draped over one arm, things have really
evolved since those days. Let’s face it, once
women got involved there were bound to be some changes
made! It is a four part a cappella style of singing.
As it was originally sung by men, the part names
have been adopted by women now, so Lead (sings the
melody, the tune), Tenor (sings above the lead),
Baritone (sings both above and below the lead) and
Bass (for those of you with very low voices, you
get to sing below everyone!)
This style of music lends itself to songs from any
era, ballads, popular show tunes and upbeat songs
always supported by performance skills that will
entertain an audience whilst giving you, the performer
a fantastic buzz. A refreshing alternative to the
standard classical choir. I like to describe it as ‘gospel
singing without the religion but definitely with
the passion and energy of performance’.
Songs we might sing……….
Can you feel the love tonight (from the Lion King)
We are family (the Sister Sledge classic)
Bandstand boogie
Lean on me
Nevertheless
We go together (from Grease)
I will follow him (from Sister Act)
You raise me up
